I have a full set of 50 First Day Covers for the 1976 US State Flags issue. They are a well-made commercial product. My question is what company made them?

There is no company name on the covers themselves and they came to be in a box with not identifying information. I have found a few listed on ebay, but with no identification of the maker.

One clue might be in the upper left corner of each cover, where there a small line drawing of a lion:

If anyone knows the maker of these covers, I would appreciate their telling us.

Per the following link, these are listed on ebay as being produced by "Capital cachet:"

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr..._sacat=47147

Mellone's "First Day Cover Photo Encyclopedia of First Cachets Revealed 1923-2005" does list "Capital" as a cachet producer, but their "first" doesn't have the lion logo, so I would not be satisfied with a single vendor's attribution on ebay without further verification.

If no one else here can help, try asking your question at the "other SCF." Some of the most knowledgable FDC collectors still hang out there.

That is a very nice cachet! I checked the McCusker web site at http://www.jamesmccusker.com, which I believe has the most comprehensive listing for FDCs. I found this cachet, but even McCusker attributes this to an "unknown cachetmaker."

I saw those listings, but took the phrase "Capital cachet" to refer to each State Capitol building shown as part of the cachet for that State, not the producer of the covers.

Well, there's still the Delphi forum to ask at. There's some guys (and a gal or two) there with a lot of knowledge about cachet makers. I wouldn't take Mccusker's as the last word. That lion logo seems to me to be an important clue.

Thanks for the suggestion, I have just done that. Will report any results back here.

Which is the same answer that you gave on the Delphi forum. [At least I assume that it was you.]

But others on the forum question this answer, as other FDCs that are actually marked as being from Medallion are so different. Which leaves me rather unsure. If I had access to stamp magazines from that period, perhaps I could find advertisements for these covers.
