From centering, perf, and impression standpoint... Yes I think it's worth having it graded. (90/95 imho)

Is it truly carmine lake versus carmine? Probably but would like to see it scanned at same time next to a carmine stamp to see difference.

It's to the top and to the left, it might get a 90. Maybe.

One of the tricks to really looking at a stamp for grading is to look at it upside down as well as right side up. Scanning both together would end any speculation about a 95.

Looks like it would grade no higher than 85 to me. Whether that's worth a graded cert or not is your call (IMO, it's not.)

However, if the color in your scan is at all representative, it's not a Scott 634b (that's a much deeper, purpler shade). Is your system (scanner, monitor, etc.) color-calibrated? IMO, calibration would have to be "way off" for this to be a genuine 634b and have an image that came out looking like that...

If you believe this stamp is carmine lake, I'd highly recommend getting a cert (graded or not) to confirm identity.

IMO, it's the lower left corner that will prevent anything higher than 85. "Maybe" a 90 on a very good day. There's also an outside chance of an 80, if the stamp has something that doesn't warrant a mention but pushes the "intangibles" number down a couple points.

Here's the break-down for your stamp: Top = 85, Bottom = 100, Left = 71, Right = 86. All of this means that your stamp has an horizontal offset to the Left 83 and a vertical offset to the top 85. The bottom line is your stamp is a VF-83. Hope that helps! So, srailkb, you have a good eye!

I would also guess it would earn an 85 or 90.

I believe it would get a 90 grade if there are no intangibles present, as srailkb mentioned, to bring the grade down.

I can understand how a stamp may appear better than it really is and how it might be perceived as a higher grade, but I gave the measured read-out on the stamp ... VF-83. I wasn't guessing. I was just trying to help disi123 out.

Interesting how certified copies all come with PSE certs at auction via Siegel. Has PF or APS ever certified this particular stamp in carmine lake shade? There is written on Siegel site, if you do search, that neither APS nor PF have a reference copy.
