Measuring does not mean much by itself - you need to check perforation, watermark, printing method etc. See http://stampsmarter.com for any help with this.

Hi you should use the water marking process! That way you can tell if any faults are hidden.

Can anyone help me with this. I am new to stamp verifications. I have 3 1c Franklin's. Two I believe to be the same size/type. One I have measured the perforations of.

I am new to this. I would really appreciate any help.

Thank you.

It would really help if you did some research on how and why the 594 and 596 were created. Then you might learn what they are supposed to look like, and you would stop wasting your time hoping to get lucky with stamps that cannot possibly be those numbers. There were at least 10 BILLION stamps issued using this design that are NOT 594 or 596, and only a tiny handful that actually are those two numbers.

Thank you for the reply. I kind of just wanted help identifying them. I don't think they were going to make me into a millionaire.

Thank you. I did in fact read this. I doubt, especially after reading this, that it is either a 594 or 596. I just thought someone else would be better at identifying which particular 1c franklin each of the three stamps were.

Thank you again

Zero chance. No need to measure or check perfs or watermarks or anything. Check the article in this thread for more info.

Welcome Andros,
More information http://stampsmarter.com/learning/ID...arities.html

There is no point in trying to measure the stamp's design, the tolerances are far too small to use this as a method for identification purposes. Here is more information
http://www.stampsmarter.com/learnin...methods.html

Start with determining the perforation gauge, your stamp appears to be perforation 11 x 10.5.
