How does one even buy North Korean stamps?

Have picked up quite a few over the years, from old collections bought at auction, dates mostly up to 1965 or so. I have never actively chased after NK stamps, so wouldn't know if anyone deals in them. Regards DavidR |

Not off ebay. Without that market I don't think many try to buy and/or sell them. I have North Korea, Scott 6 mint and I cannot do a thing with it. |

You will see some sets and accumulations at stamp auctions, but as with Cuba few sellers are interested in handling them. |

I'm sure it varies from market to market, but, in my experience, neither North nor South Korean stamps appear very often at auction (I don't look at ebay). |

Try US-based dealers in Asia and topicals. Again, they probably won't have extensive stocks. |

If stamp shows are ever an option for you, you might find them there, since ebay and PayPal won't be a consideration. |

I have a few dozen or so DPRK stamps that I've come across randomly, but I would never (for a long list of reasons) purposely purchase them. I'll save those that come my way, but I have no plans on actively collecting them. |

It seems the recent missile crisis (?) as reflected in their recent stamp issues is akin to Third Reich collecting... eerily intriguing. Those re the ones I m looking for. See a recent news story on this topic from Linn's. |

The Korean stamps are much more propaganda oriented as compared to Germany. Compare North Korea issues to the stuff ( garbage ) that came from behind the Iron Curtain in the 50's

There is a lot of North Korea stuff floating around in U.S. but it is considered as wallpaper as bad as the sand dune stuff . More experience collectors stay away from the early stuff because of the high percentage of forgeries and fakes with a serious lack of reference material. I believe the fakes and reprints are government made in the North . The lack of research and reference material keeps many away . |
