I just found a second example of what I believe to be a "twisted transfer" resulting in a doubling of the frameline at top right.

You'll need to click the images below to see them at full size.

Note that the length and separation of the frameline doubling is larger on the first example than the second example.

Bart (revcollector) has told me he has an example with doubling in the bottom lettering, but I have not seen it.

If anyone has any other examples of R152 DTs, I'd appreciate seeing them.

Hi Dan

I think I have some, will check and post what I have, this is one of my favorite revenue stamps.

You have a very nice stamp.

Hi Dan, here is my example, what do you think.

I expect your eyes are much better than mine.

Revenuecollector - I looked through mine and out of 12 copies:

Two are the same as the first one shown above.
Only one has a steady top frame line of equal thickness at both sides of the top, all the way across.
The other 9 all have a slightly thicker section at the top right but it's not a pronounced double line.

I may be able to check a number of others from another collection later this week. I can also swing by the Postal Museum in DC. It's only a short walk at lunch time and I go over there once every week or two anyways.

The Smithsonian does have at least one sheet which can be viewed at https://arago.si.edu/record_73164_img_1.html National Banknote Plate#2 printed 14 x 15. If you have not used this site before, click on the item and you can pan and zoom in. I have not looked completely through it yet but I do see some with a slightly heavier line at the top right.

Maybe I'll have a closer look after church this morning.

Jeff

Stampmaster, that looks very similar to the second example I posted.

Jconey, I've used that site in the past; I just wish the images were a bit higher resolution. At top resolution, it's just not quite sufficient for flyspecking (at least not for these old eyes).
