Anyone aware of a source describing what specific aircraft is depicted in the 5c Scott UC1 embossed air post envelope? I would think it is depicting a common "mail" airplane, most likely the DeHaviland. But sometimes aircraft depicted on stamps are just generic representations, not specific aircraft. Is that the case here, if anyone knows?

Hi blcjr, was hoping someone more knowledgeable about aircraft than myself would weight in.

For what its worth, as I understand aviation history, it wasn't until late 1928 for the first time an airframe could lift more than its total weight in fuel weight.

Not much help, but maybe this will help someone else figure out which airframe this one is.

It resembles the Spirit of St. Louis to a degree.

I saw the resemblance to the Spirit of St. Louis also. I sort of rejected it because it wasn't a "mail plane" thought it did carry some mail on some celebration flights. Maybe this?

That's probably it. This resemblance to Spirit of St. Louis is remarkable. Perhaps the same designer?
