I am addicted to the hunt and my thirst was quenched today as I dug into the first of five glorious cartons of mixed up philatelic joy. First came a handful of early MNH US in yellowed glassines extricated from the depths of a cigar box. I shoved my hand towards the bottom of the carton, grabbed hold of a wad of album pages and gently pulled them to the surface. Oh my!! A sheaf of crumbly old album pages packed with neatly mounted, fresh of paper and color, complete early Iceland complete sets. Out come the 102 cards. Catalog open I deftly calculate my find and low and behold it surpasses $2,000 by page 3. This my friends is why I collect. The thrill of discovery. This is a magnificent day.

Have you experienced this as well?

Sure ,I have purchased JUNK LOTS/ END OF AUCTION lots all my life . The best lots came from RICHARD DREWS auctions . RICHARD held very specialized U.S. auctions and the auction buyers came for the U.S. stuff. There was many auctions were I was the only bidder for those worldwide lots .
Once he had a huge metal cabinet of some 60 file draws and they were packed with glassines of stamps . He tired to get $3,000 for it at auction but it didn't sell . A week after the auction ,I stopped by his store to pick up my box lots of foreign stamps . He ask me if I wanted those huge metal cabinets loaded with 100,000's of stamps . He offered them them to me ,I said it was too much to deal with and my wife would go nuts if I brought that all home . He lowered the price and said he needed the room and would be happy if they disappeared ,so I gave him a price and he agreed . It was a lot less but I had years of fun breaking it all down and got my money back after keeping all the good stuff .

I have been addicted to bulk lots for decades. There have been resounding duds but overall it has been a joy. I avoid ebay like the plague for this type of material. My best finds have come from Siegel. Runners up are Kelleher, Cherrystone and Rasdale. Sandafayre was great about 15-20 years ago but not anymore. Back to the goldmine!

I'm an all-world collector and box lot addict. The only problem I have is in physically carrying the stuff, as I dont drive.

I find a lot of dealers can't be bothered with these things, as they need a lot of work and a general knowledge of all-world material.

The problem is to get genuine estate-type lots, and ebay is certainly a place to avoid for this stuff. The so-called glory box -- the dealer got the glory, and he's selling you the box!
