The postage stamps was a good solution for the postal problems in early 19th century UK, but why did other countries adopt the postage stamp as well? Was there such a need for them too? Or was it merely the international influence the UK had during that period? Please discuss!
It was a good idea. It ensured that the post office got paid for delivering a letter. During the time that it was customary for the recipient to pay the postage the addressee often would refuse to pay and the post office lost. And, there was an advantage to selling the stamps in advance of use roviding the post office use of the funds.
