I have this lovely penny blue stamp. It is a plate 1 with the lettering AA - very cool!

I am auctioning it on ebay at the moment and wanted to know if anyone could identify the watermark so that I could let everyone know who is interested as lot's of people have been asking.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Yes I may be mistaken there. I did have someone ask me about the watermark though! But it seems it is the cancellation mark which is on the front. Any info regarding either of these would be very useful indeed though!

I'm not a penny stamp expert. So I don't know if they have watermarks. You can Google that. You would new to use water mark fluid or lighter fluid on the back to check for a water mark.z

Hi would also suggest you watermark this stamp so disclose any hidden faults.

People may wish to see the red Maltese cross cancellation more clearly - I think that you can do this by using retro reveal. Or they may be interested in whether the watermark is inverted. How have you described the damage at the top of the stamp?

Lol what he means if you check for a watermark it may also show a fault or repair in addition to the watermark.

The stamp is a plate 1 two pence blue with Crown watermark. (4 million were printed from plate 1 out of a total of 6.4 million). It has possibly two indistinct strikes of a maltese cross cancel.
It has a Gibbons catalog value of around £900 and readily available from other sources for around £180 -£190 in fine condition. With the severe damage you should expect to lose quite a bit of that valuation ...low tens of pounds. Without the damage it would be a highly desirable stamp... great margins, AA check letters, clean example.
