Quote: You can usually tell a re-gum by the darkened perfs on the obverse on one edge. On higher end stamps, it's worthwhile for a fraudster to spend the time or send off for an excellent regumming job. These would look genuine to most experienced collectors and dealers. It would probably be worthwhile for the fraudster to buy a known regummed stamp cheap, remove the old stuff and replace with a better job that wouldn't show this old-time characteristic. Quote: Also look for re-perfs. If the perfs are too symmetrical and clean, they are usually recut. I feel this is overgeneralizing. Creating convincing perfs is Phil the Cartel's weak point. Not so for others today. |

All of you reading this thread do realize, of course, that he probably reads these chatboards for entertainment and gets better at his fraud thanks to all the helpful tips posted here. I am not criticizing, please continue, am just stating the obvious. |

Yes, I think most of us are aware. I don't see any really helpful tips posted here nor do I think I have given any away anything particularly useful in any posts. That is despite criticism for sometimes not providing extreme detail on the how and why of altered/forged/faked stamps shown on the board.
Phil the Cartel is, I believe, more skillful overall than most of the fakers of the past and quite blatant/open; both things that he is apparently quite proud of. Still, he is no Sperati. Further, Mr. Cartel is not the only faker out there. While the more easily detectable fraudsters are still out there, there are ones that definitely do much better faking than Phil Ryle does.

Rogdcam's favorite person is back in Bristol Crown Court this week; the proceeding are updated daily here http://causelist.org/bristol/T20187093/. Will be interesting to see if justice be delivered and add to his already signficant crimanl record. I am unsure how folks justify dealing with a convicted criminal, I guess they assume that as long as they think they 'got a good deal' then it is ok. Trial is over, he plead guilty yesterday. The sentencing will be on 9/28 and should be published by 10/1. Not sure if he will continue with his current companies while sitting in a prison cell. Internet access in US prisons is allowed with supervision, not sure about in Britain. Don |
