Good spot Jerry!

Another expression only philatelists may relate to:

Okay, so how many of you "cheated" and used a philatelic glossary to come up with what you posted, rather than post just the terms you personally use and which came to mind without consulting a philatelic glossary?

Already posted (buried in a long list of other, more obscure, terms} is the one I finding myself explaining most often:

cover

"You collect covers? What kind? Knitted? Quilts? How do you display them? No kidding, you hang them over the windows as substitutes for draperies? Won't that cause the colors to fade?"

I don't think I saw this one:

philately (and its variants)

It cannot be common because I can always tell when somebody is trying to impress me when I tell them I collect stamps (and covers)?

"Oh, you're a philatelist?"

Basil

- what a splendid idea, your covers would probably look wonderful in the windows Basil

If I'd consulted a philatelic glossary I would still be typing my first response. And you're right, one do not 'personally use' words like Solferino-red, for what purpose could one use it? However one might nevertheless be familiar with the expression. Guess most of us could get a diagnosis for knowing all these expressions we really never use anyway

Jerry,
I do that all the time...Grrr (I even named the image here incorrectly)

There is also a four letter word I type frequently, and it always comes out mixed,
and I have to correct (cannot recall the word)
There is a name for that curiosity, but cannot recall that either.

Rod came up with, for Blaamand, the correct definition of "fenda." It is a frame break, usually at the top, of a 1914 Ceres colonial stamp. Paper porcelana is a form of chalky paper, in Portuguese. Can also include glazed paper, which later Ceres high values are printed on.
