Here is a very late usage of a 10c Columbian on a registered letter, which we can tell from the Lincoln stamps must be 1909 or later. Either the post office still had a few of them left, or perhaps this letter was from a stamp dealer. The Columbians did not carry a premium over face value for many years, so it is not inconceivable that a stamp dealer in 1909 would use one as scrap postage. |

The twin blue Columbians on the Cleveland OH cover are really beautiful - especially since they match the blue emblem. Very, very nice cover. |

Columbus is on his way to Australia, justabeginner! Look for Star Wars stamps on the outside envelope! |

Very Nice Tom
I especially like the wax seal on the back and how clear the cancellations are. Dianne |

Thanks Dianne! I agree, the wax seal on the back of the cover adds to its charm. The New York and German Halle(Saale)receiving marks are especially nice and trace its journey from Cincinnati to New York to Germany. I wonder if the purple S in the circle is a steamship marking. |

This 2c Columbian cover is in dreadful shape, but I still like it. It was mailed from the National Bank of Cold Spring, on Hudson in Putnam county, New York, on June 5, 1893 to Reuben B. Gilbert of Mahopac Falls, New York. Inside were some canceled checks written on Mr. Gilbert's account in 1892: Perhaps originally there were very many canceled checks in the envelope (maybe for all of 1892) with copies of Mr. Gilbert's bank records. In any case, the envelope was overweight, assessed 4c postage due and stamped with a straight line "POSTAGE DUE 4" marking with "cts" in manuscript black ink added. On top of this marking, two Scott #J23 2c postage due stamps were affixed and canceled. So despite that this cover is very worn and dirty, the neat combination of a Columbian 2c commemorative with postage due stamps makes it charming and full of character to me. |

Now your hitting home, Cold Spring, New York, is about 14 miles from Buchanan, New York... |
