If Lilly applied for 113,363 in the 6th district of Indiana in August, 1919 why do we continue to see E.L. Co. No. 4 6th Dist cancellations into the 1960's? In addition we do not see 113,363 except on the cancellation in August, 1919. The 113,363 remains for me a difficult to understand registration number or numbers.
In addition I have found no registration numbers on any of my P-W-R cancellations even when they are dated past August, 1919 when supposedly the registration numbers were required until 1922. I have a similar example of the 50¢ with manuscript #1 on piece of a P-W-R wrapper with a 1922 manuscript cancel.
It looks to me that we are going to have to examine these on a company by company basis.
