Paquebot Pasteur stamp.Everyone dreams of taking a cruise on a paquebot(the real ones). An e bay seller dreams of selling his Paquebot stamp for 16 euros (Mint). The only problem these stamps were never issued without the surcharge.Genuine mint sell for 1 euro; there are tons of them. The stamp was printed in 1939;but the war having started, the stamp was issued instead 17-22 May 1941.The surcharge was for the (SCOM) Service Central des Œuvres de la Marine.A sort of social aid for sailors and their families, whether military, civilian,or fishermen. One non surcharged sheet exists in the French Postal Museum. It is believed that during the printing of the surcharge, 2 sheets were stuck together and only after during the storage of the surcharged sheets that the error was discovered.Traces of the type face (or bite)on the sheet confirmed this. Legend has it that there are some non surcharged examples around. _______________________________________________________________________________________ Sellers stamp with washed out surcharge: Adjusted pic showing the areas and the red remnant color. The Genuine stamp: |

These forgeries of IFS postage stamps of Bashahar, Bhopal, Bundi, Charkhari, Jaypur, Jammu and Kashmir, Kishangarh, Kochchi, Nandgão, Punchh, Rajpipla, Sirmaur, Vadhvan are all "Ilahabad Forgeries", which are all invariably imperforate, printed on white wove paper and fed into philatelic market from around 1999 by a printer from Ilahabad.
These IFS forgeries were first reported by Edward F Deschl, author of "The Comprehensive India States Postal Stationery Listing" (1994), in the article Forgeries warning; Ref. India Post (Vol.XXXIV No.4 No.146 10-12/2000); pp.131-2. |

Interesting, thanks Joy, they were so poorly executed, I thought just computer printed rubbish. I'll make an album page with your commentary. Makes for an interesting sideline. |

Quote:"CHARKARI STATE INDIA 1921 1 Anna Purple Wove Paper IMPERFORATE SG 29a MINT" Genuine example: Whoever identified it as Chark hari 1921 1A dull purple on wove paper (SG 29a) is wrong. This is Charkhari 1921 1A violet on wove paper (SG 29). The Charkhari SG 29a die had the constant flaw of damaged/broken O of POSTAGE which is the easier point to identify SG 29a than differentiating Gibbons' violet and dull purple shades of Charkhari SG 29 and 29a. Picking up the exact color shades of IFS stamps is the most troublesome job. Charkhari 1921 1A dull purple on wove paper (SG 29a) |
