Guys...I will tomorrow try one more time to try and prove Canadian stamps also use thermo powder..In the mean time check out Canadian stamp Scott 580..I will post software enhancing pictures..BTW..If you hold the stamp and rub your fingers across the face, you will see what I am referring to.

Robert

Here is what I was talking about with the Scott 580..Raised design and NOT writing that can only be achieved with thermo powder as shown below...My last stab at it..haha

Wert, What you suggest goes against previous catalogs and the standard scholarship. That is a steep hill to climb. Documented proof from the printer that they had the equipment and actually used it on certain stamp issues is required.

John...I know I might be beating a dead horse here..But as an ex-printer, all the signs are there..I have sent a request to Archives Canada to see if they can do some research for me.

They say they will reply within 24 hours..If I hear one way or the other, I will post my findings here.

Hi Robert,
You mentioned this process for items like business cards and wedding invites; aren't these type print jobs typically higher quality and more costly?

Now wouldn't there be a higher spoil rate on a thermograving job? If so, what would the % range be like? If so, I could see it being tolerated for the Newfoundland stamp but not for the later Canadian.

Scott No. 580, one of the two 1976 Iroquois stamps was not printed with thermography or whatever it is called. It was printed with 6 colour lithography and embossing, which was done mechanically.

Here is the new issue brochure, with specifications, plus the front and back of the stamps.

I think the first Canadian stamps with embossing were the $1 and $2 Olympic sculptures of the same year of March 14, 1975.

The above post shows once again that someone is trying to make point when there is no evidence, proof, or logic to substantiate it.
