See the Isle of Pabay Stamps below. I looked them up on Google and it appears that they may be local stamps used on the Isle of Pabay in order to get the mail from the island to a main post office. So are they considered stamps or not? If so, how do I determine their value (they are really nice stamps!)? Or would they be considered Cinderellas, perhaps? Any help would be appreciated.

Depends on with whom you speak. I consider them "locals" Value: whatever ebay will give you, very little I expect. I collect them, but then again, I collect anything. |

So, I am looking at Rod's map and there are several things that confuse me. The island's name is spelled with one "b" on stamps, but with two b's on the map. Also, there are two isles of Pabbay on the map. The second, larger one is above the island of North Uist.
Also, you will see an isle of Berneray below Rod's Pabbay. There is another isle of Berneray below the more northerly isle of Pabbay. Very strange. |

Unfortunately Rod's arrow is pointing in the wrong direction. There are at least 3 islands in the Outer Hebrides named Pabbay. However the "stamp" issuing island of Pabay is part of the Inner Hebrides, just off the Eastern coast of Skye. It does not appear to be shown on the above map. There is a history of the stamps of Pabay here: http://www.pabay.org/h_phil.html |

@HAMSTER,
What is your question.
Those are local carriage labels. As the original post states, they were used to pay for carriage from this Scottish island to a post office on the mainland. There, they entered the offical mail stream. You had to pay postage for that as well. They are not officially recognised by postal authorities, but they do pay for mail. So, they are stamps, but many will consider them cinderellas. |

https://www.pabay.org/stamps/I think all the British island local posts sell their stamps online, sometimes including back issues. So much for the days of the 1d, 2d, 3d stamps. |

I did contact Pabay Island. The person that printed some of these is Jeff Harris, and 88 year old ham radio operator. He is a very nice fellow who sold two of the other stamps from Pabay. Unfortunately he does not have these two and doesn't know anyone that does. I am not sure, but I think he is not a stamp collector, just a good ham that put the island on the airwaves. Thank you for the suggestion of https://www.grahamlandstamps.co.uk/. I will follow up with them. |
