Bumping this topic....

Just found this in a mish mash lot I won a while ago.

"The Evden Company, Ray F. Keller, Smithtown, New York" hand stamp on the back on an old Elbe approval card.

Has a zip code so it has to be July 1963 or later.

The first stamp dealer to handle HAWAIIAN stamps where the members of Christ Church in Kealakekua , on the Big Island of Hawaii . If you ever saw a early Hawaii stamp ,It has a very high percentage of being sold by the church to other dealers .The church needed money to build but the people didn't understand money or the need for it . So the church send out a newspaper ad for a request from all the Islands for postage stamps . They started a stamp selling business .

floortrader, that is a very interesting article on the first stamp dealer to handle HAWAIIAN stamps. I recall King Kamehameha III did not charge the people for local mail as he was encouraged (by a missionary) to have people write to have more literacy with the people. Then there was abuse where people wrote on anything to be mailed and caused the postmasters hardship. Finally, a mail charge was assessed.

HAWAIIANBRIAN ----- I plan to be at Christ Church in Kealakekua in April . They still bake Portuguess bread in those clay ovens behind the Church they sell out by noon time each Saturday .

I also plan to make a British postal cancel and walk down the hill to the British Territory {where Captain Cook grave marker is } and cancel a few covers there . Then walk up the hill back to the town of Captain Cook and deposit them at the U.S. Post office with British stamps . Wonder how that is going to go over . You need to plan on being around I may need to get bailed out for defrauding the U.S. Post Office

JLW Stamps does approval packets here in the UK.

They then puts everything they dont use in the packets as kiloware bundles on ebay. (usually 2kgs plus) They always have a disclaimer about possible duplication, damage, gross thematics, CTOs and the honest statement that he has picked over the stamps but I've always found any of their lots that I have won to be a really good mix of stuff.
