William Wheelwright (1798-1873) was an American businessman who played an essential role in the development of steamboat and train transportation in Chile and other parts of South America. Here is a image of an airmail stamp depicting Wheelwright and SS Chile, printed by lithogravure, and issued by Chile on August 2, 1966 to commemorate the 125th anniversary (in 1965) of the arrival of the paddle steamers Chile and Peru, Scott No. C268.

Very nice cover. I love old french commemorative stamps and the slogan cancel is beautiful. The "Normandie" a great ship of another era.

SS France was a French ocean liner put into service in 1962. At the time of her launch in 1960, she was the longest passenger ship ever built - 316.1 m (1,035 ft). Here is am image of a stamp depicting France, designed and engraved by Claude Hertenberger, and issued by France on January 11, 1962 to publicize her maiden voyage, Scott No. 1018, Y&T No. 1325.

The railway connecting Turkey and Iran built in the 1970s uses a train ferry across Lake Van, the largest lake in Turkey, between the Turkish cities Tatvan and Van, rather than building railway tracks around the rugged shore line. Here is an image of a stamp depicting a ferryboat and a map of Lake Van, printed by lithogravure, and issued by Turkey on September 27, 1971 to publicize the cross-lake service, Scott No. 1893.
