Hello,
I enjoyed researching the washington stamp so much, I purchased a couple eclectic collections. After of hours of research I haven't found anything of value but had fun occupying free time. I'm posting them here because I am obviously a novice and wanted to see if anyone with more experience could take a peek. These are only two of the pages, I'm still learning how to deal with the file sizes. The collection includes stamps from many countries.
Thank you!
Katie

Katie,

The image is small and it is hard to see any detail. Detail is important because some stamps may have the same design, but the perferations or some small part of the ink might be the difference between a common stamp and a rare one. I am glad you are enjoying the stamps. Half the fun is searching through the stamps and learning the history.

Katie, looks like a fun start but you might get better answers if you post this in the world wide section here. This section is for US Classic stamps.

Hello Katie,

The first page you show us, has entry level Dutch stamps from about 1900-1960.

No real value i'm afraid.

A specialized Dutch collector would also check for watermarks or plate flaws.

Page two I leave to other members.

Enjoy your purchase and ask questions if you need to. Every starting stamp collector and every member on SCF once started with the same kind of questions you might have.

Kind regards,

Johan.

Katie - welcome to the fun and congratulations on your purchase. redwoodrandy said it well - priceless fun
As you might have expected, I can't see any rare stamps in your lot, but it doesn't make a difference to the enjoyment. The stamp in LL corner (page 2) - from new South Wales - was issued before the different Australian provinces merged - so therefore that stamp is evidence of what stamp collectors call a 'dead country'. Unless your stamp has a rare variety, it is quite a common stamp - but its glimpse of history still makes it interesting. The Danish green 90 ore pictorial stamp on line 6, page 2, has a very neat 'Esbjerg' postmark striked dead in centre - what collectors refer to as 'Socked on the nose'(SOTN) - and even tough the stamp is quite common the perfect postmark makes it very attractive.

Hope you like sorting these and that they will be the start of a worldwide collection for further expansion - enjoy

Hello. A good start to a worldwide collection, which I think brings the most pleasure in stamp collecting. A good way to start is by buying the largest amount of stamps you can, perhaps in an old album or albums, and sorting through them. Most won't be worth anything, but they won't cost much either, and you have the fun of sorting and learning, and deciding what you might want to find more of.
Geoff

Another option is to buy a good pack of kiloware ( one kilo or pound wherever it originates from) and attempt to sort it.

Last time I got a kiloware was 4 years ago with 1000s of stamps. That was an exceptional batch. Sadly that seller is no longer in ebay.

That pack kept me occupied for more than a month.

If stamps are on paper, you can soak them, and even be busy for 2 months !

I learnt a hell lot about the French Sage and Sower issues in that one batch!

For $50, it provided enough entertainment and I even had something to show out after I was done sorting!

Think of it as another option!
