Being totally new to the stamped envelope/cut square arena I've a couple questions please:
- can a watermark on a stamped envelope be anywhere on that envelope as opposed to a certain area such that soaking the entire cover would be necessary in order to locate one?
- is it safe to assume one would be really lucky to find a watermark on a cut square?
*** added edit ***
- is it also safe to assume that multiple watermarks (quantity) would be on any one envelope, as opposed to just one watermark somewhere on the envelope?
Thanx in advance, Grandpa John

Hi GrandpaJohn. Those watermarks can be anywhere on the envelope. However, usually in my experience this watermark is easily visible without having to dunk the whole thing.
To tell you honestly, watermarks on cut squares are like the cut squares, not worth the trouble,

Peter

Thx Peter..., I had a concern re: dunking such a large item in some manner of detecting fluid. Good to know they can be seen w/o it. Am awaiting our club copy of the newest (2017) UPSS book just out covering the envelope arena etc but wanted to get a head start on it. A new endeavor just for grins always makes me anxious. :)

These new LED flashlights work very well in watermark detection/observing. You can backlight the watermark to observe and even whip out your cell phone for a picture.

Home Depot/Lowes/Ace/Etc. have a variety of them. The small ones are the best, as they fit right inside the envelope on those occasions where needed.

Thanks for the LED flashlight tip, I'll definitely look into that<no pun intended>. :) I have a few of them, freebies, from Harbor Freight that might work, I'll try them out. Thx again!
