Hi. I'm new here.

My Dad was the lifelong collector of stamps. Sadly, he passed away several years ago and the "stamp room" in his house is in need of clearing. Over his collection, he had amassed several bookcases of binders of cancelled stamps.

He lived in North Las Vegas. I don't know of anyone in the area that would be able to appraise the collection. Ideally, someone that respected the collection would purchase it and his passion would live on. To his dismay, nobody in my family has much of an interest in stamp collecting.

If there is any advice that you're comfortable sharing, I'm all ears. THANK YOU.

Hi son, and welcome to the forum. One of the best things for you to do is try to contact a local stamp club rather than see a dealer.
The best place to go is http://stamps.com for the addresses of local stamp clubs. They can advise you who to contact for an honest valuation

Do you know if your Dad was a member of the American Philatelic Society? If he was, you should contact them and get the name of a member who will help you. This is a regular service of the APS, and should be cost free, or minimal cost.

rdavid, one does not have to be an APS member to look up this info on their website.
The email address in Las Vegas is: southernnevadastampclub@gmail.com just in case

@ Son of a collector: The stamps club gives as it's address the same as Charleston Stamps which is a stamp store. I have never been to their club so don't know much about it but the people who run the store are friendly.

I suppose you can call there to find out the club meeting dates, or Google Southern Nevada Stamp Club to see if they have a different phone #. Good luck.

The APS website for the Southern Nevada Stamp Club is https://stamps.org/Southern-Nevada

Per that site, the club meets on the first and third Fridays of the month (except December) at the Acacia Springs Independent and Assisted Living Facility, 8630 West Nevso Drive, Las Vegas.

Here you can find a list of APS dealers in the Las Vegas area that may be of help in appraising the collection: https://stamps.org/DisplayPage.aspx?id=68

Thanks everyone. My Dad was a member of the APS and I've emailed the Southern Nevada Stamp Club and am awaiting a response.

Thanks again.
