I have recently acquired this book it has some damage to the top right that effected some stamps but overall each plate page is complete.

A few that fell off I have in an envelope. :)

The pages show plate 76,78,79,80,81,85,86,87,89,90,92,93,94,95,97

You can see them here. If you would like to see more images let me know.

Any and all info is appreciated history, condition, price any info. thanks.

Well, I presume they're tried and tested! In general, I think these reconstructed plates go for around £80-100, but the price will be affected by condition and the value of the individual plates.

Do you know the name of collector who tediously put this collection together????

It is awesome, but would be more awesome to know background/provenance of it?

Was it a relative of yours or from estate sale???

rgstamp It was my Uncle who put this together.

I have been finding all his hinges and stamp tools as well as pages from various countries he was working on.

He had a real flair for putting albums together I'll post some images when I get a chance.

This is extremely likely part of a collection that was stolen from a house in Westchester County NY about 40 years ago (actually different parts of the collection were stolen from the same house two different times)--this is only a small portion of the collection, as my father collected all of the penny red plate numbers. I spent many a Sunday assisting him in assembling those stamps on those pages in that binder, which is quite unique, the pages for which, to my recollection, were custom-printed for him and his collection. He spent painstaking hours sorting hundreds of stamps by plate number and location on the plate and mounting them with hinges. I don't know where the poster's uncle got them. My father died years later believing the thieves had simply dumped the collection and all his work into the trash. It seems not...

Interesting when OP claims

Normally, you do not put together stolen albums.

@Obnor, what makes you question OP's story?

Because that binder is the actual one that my father used. He reconstructed those plates exactly as shown, in the binder shown. They are unchanged except for the damage to the top right of the album and pages.

Obnor - What an amazing story to see the thing you worked on decades ago. The Statute of Limitations for theft in NY ran out long ago. You need 50 posts to email other members but I am sure a moderator could help you reach out to Bklynjava.

Thanks, rogdcam. I only wanted to post for the record, I have no wish to get my hands on any of the collection at this point as philately was never my interest and those albums (there were more than one volume) are, as you say, long gone, as is my father. What actually caused me to happen across this posting was an interest in selling the only piece of his collection I still have, which is a binder of about 85 fully researched cancelled letters posted with penny reds, including stamp information and postmark information. I'd love to get some leads on the best place/way to sell them

If they are of value, especially when of interest to specialists, an auction house might be your best choice.

If they are common, the descriptions are nice, but you might as well sell them in lots of ten or twenty through a platform.

Most Penny Reds come thirteen a dozen even on cover. Some postmarks are of interest, but some, especially on Penny Reds, are extremely common. The right postmark and plate (type, watermark, shade, perforation) combination, however, might beworth something.
