Not exactly a gallery hang but I've a soft spot for illumination art. Iceland 466 Illumination from Book of Flatey, 14th Century  The Flatey Book is the largest medieval Icelandic manuscript, comprising 225 written and illustrated vellum leaves. It contains mostly sagas of the Norse kings as found in the Heimskringla. |

Happy Birthday to Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni (1475-1564), commonly known as Michelangelo, an Italian sculptor, painter, architect, poet, and engineer of the High Renaissance who is widely considered one of the greatest artists of all time. Here is an image of an airmail stamp featuring a portrait of Michelangelo, designed by Pierre Béquet, engraved by Pierre Forget, and issued for use in Afars and Issas on June 26, 1975, Scott No. C93, plus an image of a sketched portrait of Michelangelo by Italian painter and sculptor Daniele da Volterra (c. 1509-1566). - nethryk  |

Here are images of the two booklet stamps publicizing Gustav III's Museum of Antiquities in Stockholm, designed by Swedish-American artist Toni Hanzon-Kurrasch, combined engraved and lithography, and issued by Sweden on August 21, 1997, Scott Nos. 2246 & 2247, Facit Nos. 2034 & 2035, plus a photograph of this Endymion sculpture. Note: In Greek mythology, there are varying versions of how Endymion, the most handsome mortal man in the world, came to be granted eternal youth, but was also placed into an eternal slumber.
