Here are images of two stamps in a set depicting views of Old Monaco (respectively, Music Pavilion, c. 1920, and Beau Rivage Avenue, 1925), designed after sketches by Monégasque artist Hubert Clerissi (1923-2000), combined engraved by Czeslaw Slania and photogravure, and issued by Monaco on October 28, 1986, Scott Nos. 1546 & 1547. Happy Birthday to Marc Zakharovich Chagall (1887-1985), a Belarussian-Russian-French modernist artist who created works in many artistic media, including painting, book illustrations, stained glass, stage sets, ceramics, tapestries and fine art prints. Here is an image of a stamp featuring a portrait of Chagall, and depicting some of his artwork, designed and engraved by Eugène Lacaque, and issued by Monaco on November 16, 1987 to commemorate the artist's birth centenary, Scott No. 1599, plus a photo of Marc Chagall in Paris, 1921, and an image of a miniature sheet containing six stamps reproducing "Peace," a stained glass memorial window created by Marc Chagall in 1964 in honor of former United Nations Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld (1905-1961) and installed at UN Headquarters, printed by lithography, and issued by the UN on November 17, 1967, Scott No. 179. - nethryk  |
