Here is an image of a stamp designed and engraved by French artist Claude Andréotto (1949- ) after a detail from a painting entitled Repas de paysans ("The Peasants' Meal," 1642), by French artist Louis Le Nain (c. 1593-1648), and issued by Monaco on October 20, 1988 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the birth of Louis's painter brother, Antoine Le Nain, Scott No. 1648, plus an image of the original work of art. Note: It is now thought that Antoine Le Nain was actually born c. 1599. Also, Scott (2008 ed.) mistakenly identifies Antoine as the painter of this picture. - nethryk |
