I recently received an ebay purchase from a seller listed (on ebay) as being located in Croatia. Hence I was surprised when the envelope arrived with a stamp and cancel from Poland. Even odder is that the return address on the envelope is in Croatia.

Has anyone else had this happen with an ebay (or other) purchase?

This is nothing new outside the ebay stamp world. Bought an electronic doodad, seller apparently located in the US. Got a notification by a different user name that was in Chinese characters only, and the thing was shipped from China.

When I lived in Europe back in the 50's and 60's I worked all over and sent mail from several countries all the time. I see no problem here whatsoever

Several times I received stamp orders mailed from a differing country usually for safety reasons. Went by private courier to a postally more secure area.

Sometimes the stamp was located in another country for another reason.

Interesting.

As my purchase arrived undamaged and as-described, I have no issue. In fact, I will likely make a larger purchases from the seller in the future.

I've bought a couple of things recently from an ebay seller whose return address is in Perälä, Finland, but which he mailed from Åland, an autonomous region over 100 miles away. I don't know why he did that, but mail with Åland stamps and postmarks is certainly more unusual than mail with regular Finnish stamps and postmarks.

Years ago I was on a Silja-line ferry from Stockholm to Finland (and return).....stopping in the Ålund Islands.

It was loaded with Swedes taking advantage of the lower taxes for liquor in the Ållunds (and possibly also Finland). People had literally cases of booze in their bags!

Similarly, three years ago I took a taxi from Trier, a German town near the Belgian-Luxemburg border. I asked to go to the main train station in town. The driver and I chatted; she found out I was planning to take the train to Luxembourg, 49 kilometers by train away. She offered to take me and my three traveling companions direct to Luxembourg for only 10 Euros more....about double the short taxi ride within Trier.

Seems tanking up in Luxembourg made it worth her while; gas is about 18% cheaper there than just across the border, and I saved train fare for four too!

(€1.14 per liter vs. €1.32 according to Google today)

Never underestimate the power of shopping (or even mailing packages) across borders for better deals!

When I lived in Detroit, some of the people in my department lived in Windsor Ontario. I would sometimes have then carry mail to Canada Post in order to use up my unsellable Canada stamps. So, I was based in the USA but that mail was sent from Canada. Might be a similar situation with the person in Croatia.

Bought a couple of postal history items off UK-based Argyll Etkin Ltd's website. The items arrived from South Africa - seems they have offices there too.

I buy stuff on ebay from a seller listed as being in the UK...but is actually in France...as long as the dealer is trustworthy and my stuff arrives I don't care what it says on the license plate.

Oddly enough, I bought some iPhone cables on ebay in China with free shipping, but they were shipped from Germany.

This is mostly people "Drop-Shipping" in regards to the phone cables and items from China. For the stamps, I have no clue on.
