Hello everybody. Please tell me: -whether such a postage stamp was issued. Was bought in the set cheaply. Has a watermark and a sticker, but there is no dot over I. Under a microscope, I did not find any traces of erasure and chemistry.

If without underprint, using the Michel catalogue, this is the 125 YF first issued in January 1923. Y stands for horizontal watermark, F stands for no underprint. value is low due to been hinged and being unused.

PS above is assumed on basis of the picture. To me it looks like the watermark is horizontal. If not and it is vertical the number is 125 XF.

Kind regards,

Johan.

Not mentioned in my Michel Specialised, checked with my copies which all have the dot over the "i", so maybe not a constant flaw. Nice though.

Many thanks to Johan end YeaPolska. And how much can such a mark cost and what expertise is needed?

Gerhard Schueler's "Spezialkatalog der Danzig-Briefmarken" lists all of the plate flaws and anomalies (tack head marks, etc.) for all 100 positions of the sheet. There is no mention of such a plate flaw for Mi. #125.

Printing irregularities are very common for the letterpress printed stamps of Danzig from the early 1920's. They make an interesting addition to a collection.

Because it's not a constant flaw, maybe a dollar. It's not worth getting expertised

YeaPolska is correct. Even if this were a plate flaw (constantly recurring variety) which it is not, the value would only be a couple of dollars.

For example, the Schueler book lists plate flaws for 27 of the 100 positions of Danzig Mi. #125. How many of these plate flaws does Michel list? The answer is zero. Michel lists very, very few of the plate flaws of these 1920's Danzig stamps. The printings are somewhat crude and there are many plate flaws and freak printings from these issues.

Of course, you will see people trying to sell these "rare" varieties on ebay for big bucks. Danzig is a popular collecting area.

I agree with YeaPolska. Nice to have in your collection, not worth getting expertized.

bookbndrbob is correct, a lot of crude printing. A lot of Danzig stamps out there that are questionable.

I do want to point out, that based on the pictures provided, I do think, as I mentioned before, that this stamp has no underprint. This does not change the value of this stamp, but is nice to ad to the description.
