I've purchased about 20 of these. I was okay taking the chance since the remaining number of available sheets was low (around 6000) and a number of unreported right side up sheets remained. UNTIL last year when the number of sheets available for sale took a jump to around 13000. These were all supposedly previously brought together so how dud so many suddenly turn up?

Bought my share of them. Chance of a jackpot was tempting. Used some on mail to overseas collectors. Overpaid the letters, but I think they enjoyed them.

Found three unused sheets in a stock book the other day (opened).

Anyone keep some unopened. (Like Schrödinger's cat), until you open, there could be a chance.

To the sudden increase in numbers. hopefully the coil roll scammers have not entered the game.

I think this (USPS intentionally printing 'rarities') will never happen again, imagine what would happen if the USPS tried it now. The high-quality Chinese counterfeits would flood in and make a mess for everyone; would be countless numbers of 'winners' who would quit their day jobs only to ultimately hate the USPS and stamps. Kind of defeats the point of originally doing it.

Why couldn't the Chinese still counterfeit these today? Surely they could find a gullible collector or two?

Not worth it in the long run. They need to sell large quantities to make it worthwhile.
