This is one of the 100 'special' sheets that USPS offered; it is quite real. the price, however, is not. (Some would argue that the USPS intentionally made a 'rarity'.)

I believe I've seen one or two of these for sale in the past in the $8,000-$10,000 range.

Wow. Talk about a lottery drawing to promote sales of the sheets. I bet there are tons of regular sheets that were sold and sitting in boxes or postage.

Interesting story about how the 100 limited edition sheets were released randomly with the distribution of the "correct" inverted version. Not sure that I think about the sweepstakes approach.

That is what is was, lottery/sweepstakes giveaway. That is what happened to baseball cards. The packs were bought for the insert cards, looking for special inserts. I saw a kid open 4 or 5 packs over a trashcan. He took out the specials and dropped the rest in the bin. Is that what they want to do with stamps?

Saw noblespirit had them on sale for a long time with no buyers. Seems like they eventually sold it... Not sure about the final price though

Seller of the Jenny sheet also has a couple hundred other devilishly priced stamps for sale. None of them sell. Mostly sells women's apparel.

Question: Has anybody chased after this sheetlet? If so, how many have you bought?

Yeah, I chased it. Since it was first issued, I've probably purchased 200-300 panes, but used it on parcels and for mailings for the stamp club. Never found one, though.

I have bought a couple thousand of these -- mostly from the "cave" -- where it was later reported that very few "lottery" sheets were held. I mail a lot of media mail packages so have used most of the stamps for that purpose. Also have a son overseas and use whole sheets on packages to him. He sends the postally used sheets back to me, and I sell those on ebay!

No envelope held a lottery winner.

It was a gimmick. With any lottery like gimmick, the losers rarely make the news.

But to me, the difference is, you still had the full value of the postage available to use, unlike a traditional lottery.

I bought maybe a total of 20 sheets over several years, and used the $2 stamps whenever I was mailing something that required that much postage or more.
