It saddens me a bit that Canada Post did not issue a commemorative stamp celebrating the platinum wedding of QE2. Is there a reason why such a stamp was not issued this year?

Cai168..Welcome to the forum.
Dont be surprised that Canada Post has its own priorities.

Some important people, institutions, and groups are not important in their eyes..Look at what I mean below.

No. of stamps printed.
BIRDS -------------------100
TRAINS AND RAILWAYS -----64
HORSES ------------------67
FOOD --------------------34
OIL ---------------------17

IMPORTANT ORGANIZATIONS..
R.C.M.P. ----------------12
FIRE FIGHTERS -----------6
NATO --------------------2

You get the idea Cai168...Sometimes, important things are not important to Canada Post

So, not having a stamp for the Queen does not suprise me.

Robert

I do not quite get what Robert is doing with his post, but it is obvious to me that Batman and StarTrek are a lot more important than the Queen.

wert - well done. I have has a burr under my saddle for a very long time about our "stamp advisory committee." You should add # of sports stamps against # of cultural stamps for another glaring imbalance.

Thanks for the info! So who sets the idea for the stamp ideas then? Do they ask focus groups when designing?

Cal168 - the ideas come from many sources - including individuals. I've had three or four of my ideas approved for stamp issues.

Hey Cai168
Canada Post was more than willing to feature this guy:

Scott Bakula, born in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, whose tremendous significance to Canadians is that he is an actor!

I mean, where's Christopher Plummer?

Not to be mean, but I'm getting tired of any "grey cup stamps".

@Canadastamp - which ideas of yours have been approved?

The Lunar Stamps of Canada is definitely of Interest to the Chinese community. I know Chiese collectors who but the stamp sheets and other lunar related stamps products. It's also a great birthday gift for those born in that animal year. I think it would be a bad move for Canada not to issue as many other Postal services do issue lunar stamps and many would wonder why Canada suddenly opt-outs selling Lunar New Year stamps. Also, if Canada Post were to stop issuiig lunar stamps, there would be a backlash in Asian communities for all the reasons. I can hear the negative twitter tweets and the news reporting on such a minute scandal.

The Lunar Year stamps are in their second go around - that means 24 consecutive years of Chinese New Year stamps by the end of this second cycle. I also think that this has to be the last cycle.

true blackjag

Also we can see where Canada posts priorities are.

Take for instance Scott 2805i and 2806..Stamps produced by Canada of a convicted criminal in his own country trying to over through a government and with fears of a racial civil war..yet we produced a stamp celebrating his accomplishments..Kinda hard to understand that Canada accepts this kind of behavior and puts out a stamp

Some times I dont understand Canada Posts political beliefs...

Stick to Canadian accomplishments..Prime ministers,Native endeavors, etc...And sorry if you think I am out of line believing in Canada.

BTW Cai168..Something just as simple as the stamp below.

Robert

Very nice design Robert!

But look at it this way, if the marketing gurus thought that it would sell, they would have repeated what was done for the 2012 Diamond Jubilee - 8 issues - 8 stamps (one being a $2 denom), 6 mini panes of 4, 6 keepsake folders, a 10-stamp booklet, and a mini-pane of 8 of the $2 stamp. It's either all or nothing with these guys (like the CFL stuff later that year).

Just my opinion.

Peter

How did the Prince George stamps sell? Was it announced ahead or was it rather last minute? I was thinking to make plat anniversary same selling method as "limited edition" stamps just as Prince George stamps were.
