On a whim bought a HUGE pile of the above, mostly 1970s, quite cheap. Lots of interesting and attractive cachets and/or cancels, all in good shape. Not what I collect (I do worldwide pre-1950)--are there others who do? If so, what do they look for? Thanks for any information you might provide....

Yes, there are few general collectors of this, but as you may have found in buying this, general lots go for anywhere from 10c-25c a cover. Cacheted covers would tend toward the higher end. There are specific covers that are of interest to specialist collectors of city/county/state and topics, but it's impossible to say who is interested in a specific item and exactly what it might be worth. Check out the "sold" listings for US pictorial cancellations on ebay to get some idea of the range of prices possible.

Also, condition is especially critical in recent event covers such as these from the 1970s. Larger lots of them go for even less than 10 to 25 cents each and can sell in the 5 cents each or even less range. You did not say how much you paid for them, but you mentioned you got a great deal so my guess is that you likely paid about what they were worth.
