I have had a hard day with the stamps, have not found a single one, but will keep looking. So, to turn to something else I have 2 covers still sealed in there plastic wrapper, one is this one:

There is one corner that has moisture damage, but thankfully it is located at the upper right corner under the price of 69 cents:

The envelope and its stamp are not damaged, the water mark goes 7/8 inches deep from the corner of the cardboard backing to the outer edge of the wet spot. The corner tip of the envelope is 1 1/2 inches from the same corner edge of the cardboard backing on the front of the cardbord back. Visually, I can see the envelope is fine, it has been protected from dirt and dust, if not moisture.

Oh, and I should mention the packet is a little rippled with large ripples, hence the shadows in the scans.

I looked up one on ebay that was not still in it's original package, it sold for $6.94 plus $1.99 shipping, here is the link:
https://www.ebay.com/sch/Stamps/260...skc=48&rt=nc

So I wanted to look up the stamp and identify it, this is what I found:

The postmark clearly says May 25, 1967, it is not in the catalog where it should be - is it some sort of special stamp? Why isn't it listed in the Scott?
This has been happening to me all day, I get a certain pleasure out of identifying each stamp, and I have not had a hit on an identification all day

Anyway, sorry about the longish explanation but wanted to make everything about this cover that I know. Oh, one last comment, I like that the design of the envelope is a large imprint of SC 469 in the clip of the catalog.

OK, thank you for your time and patience with all my questions. Julie

It's a United States stamp - not Canadian.

Hi Julie. Have you noticed the cancel and the stamp? The stamp is a US stamp and the First Day of its Issue was on the cancellation date, most likely in Canada at the US Pavilion of the Expo. I can not read the cancel very well, this is just an educated guess.
By the way, the stamp celebrates the Canadian centennial, and is Scott # 1324.

Of course, I just looked after reading your post and see it now. I think I am tired. I am sorry for another mistake, obviously I am still learning a lot, I will try to force myself to slow down a little - I did just notice that the ebay acution that had sold was for a post card and not an envelope. This is an envelope, must look more for some kind of price guide as I have no idea - not sure where but will do more searching. Thank you for your response. Julie

Thank you Peter, I just saw your post, thank you for the information on the stamp. Yes, I did look at the cancel with a loupe but was only looking for the date. The cancel says around the top of the circle - U.S. Pavillion, May 25, 1967 in the center, and Montreal Canada around the bottom of the circle. This is what you expected it sounds like, is this a common cover, or is it rare like one of the sellers on ebay said? I don't automatically trust ebay sellers so I am thinking it is not so rare after all. Also located the Scott entry for the stamp, thank you very much! Julie

I have no idea about the cover. I do not know if it is common or rare or in-between. The water damage is a pity, that makes part of it virtually without value.

Thank you for telling me Peter, maybe I should pull the envelope out of the bad packet as the envelope looks much better than the card it is on. Here is the other one I have, it is from April 5, 1956 to celebrate the Centennial of Booker T. Washington's birth:

This one seems to be in better shape except one thing, the plastic seam has split that is 3 1/8 inches long, just long enough for some one to have removed the envelope and put it back - I cannot say it has been unopened and wonder if I should just pull the envelope from the package?

If anyone has any idea as to whether it would be better to throw away the packets or not, please let me know. Julie

If you don't have anything to store covers in, I'd save the packets for the time being. The cellophane wrap will continue to self-destruct over time so if these are keepers, you'll need better storage. Plastic shoe boxes with tops are cheap and good for that. Then there are various type cover sleeves available from stamp supply places as well as cover albums. Avoid the "magic" photo albums with wax strips that will stain covers and stamps.

I don't know tons about first day covers, but the cachet (envelope design) makes a difference in valuation. This was not one of the common FDC cachets of the period (where a cachet maker would make an envelope design for many/most/all US issues), since it looks like it was a postcard of the Canadian pavilion.

On ebay, in the stamps section, I put in "US 1324 FDC" and got these results:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_od...C&_sacat=260

You can see how the asking prices vary a fair amount.

(And, for completeness' sake, you can see how the solds look here:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/Stamps/260...045573.m1684 )

There one listing that uses the same card as your cover:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/US-FDC-132...AOSwiQ9ZQUmw

although it is prepared differently, with the stamp placed on the address side of the postcard, rather than on the design side, like yours.

I do note a couple of things about that listing that seem incorrect to me. He describes it as "unlisted post card US Pavilion".

First, if you read the address side of the card, it says it's the Canadian Pavilion, and if you Google "Expo67 Canadian Pavilion", you'll see that design.

Second, I don't think it's correct to call it an "unlisted post card". At first, it might lead someone to think that it's a "postal card", rather than a "post card". Postal cards are issued by the postal authority and the postage has been prepaid. A post card is the item you (used to) buy for souvenirs, and you had a slap a stamp on it to pay the postage. As far as I know, there is no comprehensive catalog of post cards (although maybe there is for Expo67 - who knows?). It's just a post card, not an unlisted post card. (At least, that's my opinion.)

Anyway, that'll give you a little better feel for what you have.

I've been enjoying all your posts asking questions. Don't get discouraged. But it also takes a while (for most of us, it's been years of learning) to get a good generalized knowledge of stamp collecting. I hope you'll be able to enjoy the process!

Indeed.

I fell for a similar trap, when I met with these.........
I could not figure out why US stamps were on a Canadian Minisheet (as I then thought)
I did not have a Scott catalogue at the time.

Thank you for your response as to whether I should keep the envelopes in the plastic - these are the only two covers I have except for my sons collection from his grandmother who had an album full of us covers - but I can't do anything but look at that collection as my son has decided to keep it as it is currently. I have been avoiding that collection since I don't want to disturb it.

Seems like a shoe box would be kind of large with only two envelopes in it - can I put them in a plastic zipper insert for a binder - would that be ok for the envelopes?

Thank you so very much for your thoughtful post and the information that you shared. The one thing that has me puzzled a bit is that I can't find another envelope with this design (cachet). And the fact that it is an envelope explains why the stamp is on the front on top of the cachet - on a postcard you put the stamp on the back like the examples on ebay. You also included your search term: "US 1324 FDC"
I don't understand the number and where you came up with "1324"? How did you know to put that number in?

And I am enjoying learning about the stamps very much so far, thank you.

And Rod, thank you for your kindness and encouragement. I don't want to embarrass you but I think you are very nice. You said:

I had no such reason for my troubles with the stamps yesterday - it was just one of those days where things did not go smoothly with the stamps. After resting I am in a much better frame of mind about it all. Thank you so much for your very nice posts - thank you for being so kind. I can see why your stamps would have tricked you, just like I had a blind eye for some reason for the "USA" on the stamp on the cover for some reason. Thank you for sharing your experience with me - and the moral of the story is that we all have days like yesterday went for me - thank you! Julie

1324 is the Scott number for the US stamp issued for the Canadian Centennial (as shown on your cover).

Thank you for telling me what the number was, I looked the stamp up yesterday after I was told it was a USA stamp (duh) and promptly forgot the number, I was wondering if that wasn't the stamp but wasn't sure. I have done nothing to catalog these two envelopes, not sure what to do with them since there are only two.
