I saw on another post that Bill Steiner's PC was hacked. But, I was still able to download the existing pages that were posted on his website. However, the last 2 days I am receiving a "database error" when I try to do a search by Country. Is everyone else experiencing this problem? Just want to make sure it wasn't my ISP causing the error.

Yes.
Look at the list of threads in this forum. About 3 or 4 threads below yours is a thread from last Wednesday saying there is a problem with the Bill Steiner website.
It digresses a bit into 'hacking' (I'm not sure if Timm chose the proper term), but others are experiencing problems as well.

Thanks kirks! I did see that thread, but from how I read it, it was his personal PC being hacked, and he lost all of his recent page updates. His PC was hacked sometime last week, but the website was still functional until this past Monday. His PC should be completely independent of his website. I guess the keyword is "should". So, I wasn't sure if his website also ended up going down Monday, or if my ISP didn't like something, thus causing the error. I guess time will tell.

I hate that people have nothing constructive to do with their time, so they try to destroy what other people have built. It's a sad commentary on society.

This is pure speculation on my part, but the template for his webpage is from Microsoft FrontPage. I haven't used FrontPage in a long time, but IIRC, it allowed you to make updates to a local copy of your webpage, then FrontPage would sync to the server and update the server side. If the local copy was damaged somehow, it could potentially affect the server copy. |

Note: FrontPage also supported direct connection to the web server without any local copy stored. Don |

I e-mailed Mr. Stenier about the problem and got a timely response.....
I apologize for the error messages you've been getting when you try and use The Stampalbums Web. My internet web host provider is experiencing major problems. This is causing the error messages you've been getting. There is nothing I can do to fix the problem. We'll just have to wait until my web host provider gets my website fixed. I've tried to get an estimate of how long this will take with no luck. I'd be very surprised if it took longer than a day or two. They host a lot of websites in addition to mine and will start to lose customers if they don't get this fixed soon. So they're working very hard to fix the problem.
Again, sorry for the problem.

All my dealings with Mr. Steiner, have been helpful, and generous to a fault. I am not surprised with his quick response, Let's hope he is up and running soon.

KirkS Totally agree with your commentary/opinion. Having lived long enough to see the changes in our Societies (since we live in different countries).........we have to keep, as a group on this Forum, discipline and this is quite hard to do but at least we try (I try).. |

Just an FYI - I was able to still go to the classic pages and download a few that I needed. |

Mr. Steiner's website could use a page redesign. [---------] I paid for a year back in 2009 and downloaded all his pages and then decided not to renew. It's a wonderful service.
As with anything, it takes money and time to do a redesign, and I don't know if it generates enough money to pay for a website redesign. |

Looks like his prices have gone up significantly since I last looked. $50 for website access and $75 for the CD.

Glad that I picked up the CD for $40 about 6 months ago. That said, the pages are still a bargain at $75.

We must consider in the price rise, Mr Steiner has built new Album pages for the World, over the past 8 years. That would be a considerable challenge.
