Oh. There is a lot more missing on the stamp. Some sort of crease runs all the way from the left corner down to "one". Looks like a foldover? If you check on http://stampworld.com you can find a picture of the undamaged stamp
With the stain on the back, it looks (badly) repaired, maybe even made from two stamps. Hard to tell if any part of the cancel overlaps/matches the added section. Then it could be someone defrauding the NSW post office, which makes it very interesting.

Even though it shows no tears on the reverse where the "E" is missing it shows signs that the paper lifted apart and rejoined at the front, notice the lines out of alignment.
Lines lifted below "ON". And space between "ON" and "SHILLING" is too narrow, compared to my stamp below.
