Hi Dan,
Understood, but that is only because others have bought into the ebay marketing game. I reward sellers by buying from them, not giving some useless feedback. If any seller feels that the feedback is so critical then they should post this requirement in their listing and I will not purchase from them. I have not given more than a few feedbacks in the last few years and I could not give a rats butt about this badly flawed ebay marketing scheme.

I am not calling for a boycott here, I simply support sellers who I think have quality material at a fair price. In my opinion a dumbass rating system has zero to do with this.
Don

Edit: And I DO give feedback, feedback which is far more valuable then the ebay marketing crap. Sellers get a detailed message which thanks them, outlines my satisfaction, and calls out anything they have done over and above the typical transaction.

Edit #2; I do indeed perceive the rating system as a ebay benefit, not a seller benefit. It means zero to me when I consider a new seller. We are already all paying ebay very well in fees, why should we also be contributing to their marketing efforts?

Hey Don, Every time I read one of your comments, I am fascinated by your insight. You make a really good point about the feedback system!

Don, your method makes sense. I disagree with it, but it makes sense.

I think we sometimes confuse "rating" with "feedback", and given how ebay has treated them almost interchangeably over the years, that's no surprise. What you are providing is actual feedback, whereas what likely has the most impact on public perception is the rating.

I couldn't tell you who has or has not left me feedback ratings or comments, because I don't monitor it other than to periodically check and see whether I've gotten any neutral or negative ratings. It's literally been years sincie I received either. I know that some sellers (and annoyingly buyers) chase feedback, but I don't believe in that, and frankly can have negative consequences... nag me for a rating/feedback and you may not get what you were expecting.

Your sending a message, pro or con, is likely to have more direct and immediate impact than any rating or feedback comment.

I decided to fight fire with water. I took all of your comments into consideration and cooled down, responding as politely as I could

Jake, I have never had a problem with Dwight. He is my "Go-To" for hinges.

Don,

I hope you are doing OK. I have been through it, too. Best of Luck to you

This is the same seller I nearly bought hinges from this Summer, then cancelled and blocked him over what I felt was immature feedback he posted as comments on some negs left for him. All caps, etc. In fact I think I posted on here about it.

ebay - like many on-line selling operations (including Amazon) tracks seller performance. Shipping promptly is a performance measure. Mind you, a seller can marked "shipped" and not ship. But these days, paypal refunds buyers who claim they didn't get the goods (assuming there was no tracking).

Dear Cook,
I sell roughly ten items each day. Sometimes delivery takes two weeks, or even longer. I've never understood why this is, but it's a fact of life with USPS. I like to say USPS is extremely reliable, but sometimes quite slow. Patience is definitely a virtue.
As for FB, I have my account set up to give automatic positive feedback, which is entirely appropriate 99+% of the time, although there have been a few instances when I wish I could have retracted it.
Remember this stamp collecting is a hobby one can relax and enjoy
Dan
