This guy really ticked me off. I purchased these a WEEK AGO, and he never marked them as shipped. I thought he may have died or something or been hospitalized and just wanted to check in and make sure he knew about my purchase and I wasn't mad or anything. But when he made his response, I was extremely annoyed. First of all, half of his words were in all caps to emphasize how "I NEED TO READ THE ITEM DESCRIPTION". I see this as online yelling.... He also hadn't left any feedback, so I wish I could leave bad feedback, but he'd do the same to me and my 100% rating would go down and from a purchase now a sale. This seller is pathetic. He doesn't know how to use ebay because all he had to do was mark as shipped, and he wouldn't be having this problem. http://i.cubeupload.com/Yz24uF.pnghttp://i.cubeupload.com/Gt7qtE.png

Quote: he'd do the same to me and my 100% rating would go down and from a purchase now a sale Sellers cannot leave negative feedback to buyers. ebay ended that in 2008. Many sellers do not mark things as shipped. |

In all candor: 1. I think you are reading too much into his response. Likely it is a copy and paste response. 2. As mentioned above, marking things as shipped is not a requirement. 3. Feedback (A) is optional, and (B) buyers cannot receive negative feedback any more. In fact, buyer feedback needs to be eliminated entirely from the ebay universe. 4. In my opinion, when a seller ships something or marks something as shipped, is meaningless. What's important is whether the merchandise arrives. Perhaps I'm a bit old-school, as I can remember ecommerce before there was an Internet, and people actually had to have patience. My current standard as a buyer is if I have not received the merchandise in 2-3 weeks, and it is a domestic transaction, I will politely inquire as to the shipping status. Any sooner than that is jumping the gun, in my opinion. Returns/disputes can now be filed for up to 180 days, so there is no real reason to rush a transaction's completion other than I WANT IT NOW! |

Taking your message to the seller from the link above, since it can be removed at any time: Quote: Okay man, then how about you mark the item as "shipped" and I won't have to ask this question. Simple as that... I'm sorry, but by responding using the language you did, YOU provoked his response. You are just as much to blame as the seller is, in my opinion. |

@cook islands Sorry to say, if I was a stamp seller, you would be added to my best buddy list ASAP just as you made the sellers list. Bad mouthing ebay sellers because you are impatient, does not help you, as many won't sell to you. Word gets out very quickly. Take a couple of deep breaths and calm down. Your reply to the seller was not very polite either. How much feedback do you have on ebay? |

I actually feel like this is the twighlight zone. First of all, I am the buyer, which means he should be treating me with respect because I am the one paying him. Second of all, I was never blaming him for never marking shipped, I simply asked in a polite way if he had shipped them. Instead of responding personably saying that he had shipped it, he pasted an unnessecary long response which was extremely rude proclaiming that "I am the one at fault for not reading", even though his description doesn't mention anything of the sort. I responded back the way I did because I was the one provoked. I dont understand how there is any way possible that this was my fault and it is obvious that ut isn't |

Neither buyer nor seller is inherently more worthy of both than the other. P.S. All this ire over a $3.00 purchase? Seriously? P.P.S. What is your ebay userID? |

I'm not bad mouthing him because I'm impatient, I'm bad mouthing him because he has been an extremely ruse seller. I could care less how fst they get here. My initial question was just to see if he shipped them because I had no way of knowing because he didn't mark it as shipped and I thought he may have forgotten to mark it or just couldn't ship it at that time. -jake |

Quote: Actually, respect and courtesy goes both ways. If you look, my first message to him was "Have you shipped them item? Thanks!" I wasn't rude in any way. He took the first shot, and I responded defensively. Also, why do you want my ebay seller id if you don't mind my asking? |

Jake,
I think you're missing the point: Inquiring after less than a week IS being impatient. |

That wasn't my intent though, I just was wondering if he shipped it because normally sellers mark the item as shipped once they ship it. I can however see how this can be percieved as impatient.

Quote: I just was wondering if he shipped it because normally sellers mark the item as shipped once they ship it. Many don't though. I guess after 20 years on ebay, I'm used to many sellers not marking things as shipped, so the fact that a shipment isn't marked doesn't even register on my radar until after several weeks have passed and I have not received a shipment. I also tend to have 5-10 purchases inbound at any given time, so I don't worry about the shipped statuses of each one. |

Quote: Just take a look at his feedback. I would have avoided this seller. Actually in all fairness, over a 12-month period 4191 positive, 8 neutral, and 22 negative is not bad for a high-volume seller, in my opinion. The more you sell, the more neutrals and negatives you will get, just due to the law of averages. It's inevitable. Take a look at high-volume sellers in some of the consumer goods categories and it is considerably worse... and if you REALLY want to see some frighteningly low feedback numbers, browse through seller ratings in the Amazon Marketplace. Overall, the ratings there are much lower on average than on ebay. |

Quote: ...but he'd do the same to me and my 100% rating would go down and from a purchase now a sale... Jake, Retribution is just one of the reasons that the ebay rating system is virtually useless. Let's say you make me angry. All I have to do is start 5-10 ebay accounts, make some purchases from you, and trash your rating. There are good sellers with bad feedbacks and there are bad sellers with 100% feedbacks. In fact, some of the very worse sellers on ebay have 100% feedback. Why? Because they maintain 50+ accounts and simply walk away from any account that get a negative feedback. Others simply purchase existing ebay accounts. Additionally, anyone who has ever worked retail knows that it is not possible to do 50,000 transactions and not have a single upset customer. So how do the 'big guys' achieve this? They get ebay to remove the negative ratings upon request; ebay is very quick to do this for the big sellers. ebay has developed the rating system to instill a high level of confidence to buyers. This is a big part of their business plan, buyers have to be willing to buy items 'sight unseen' (other than questionable image). So they use the rating system to give buyers a false level of confidence in pulling the buy trigger from a completely unknown person half a world away. Of course they have also implemented terms and conditions with a 'no questions asked' return policies that also is intended to give buyers additional confidence. This is not a true rating system, it is a marketing game. I, for one, am not willing to support their silly game. I almost never give any seller a feedback rating although I do always try to send them a personal message after a receive a purchase. By sending them a message, I am not limited to a 'tweet' or some silly rating star system. I can offer a much more detailed feedback on the transaction. I think that over the last 5-8 years the ebay rating system has become less and less relevant as people began to understand they were being gamed by ebay. Don |

Don, you have every right to provide or withhold feedback as you see fit, but I hope that you realize that by NOT providing any positive feedback, even where warranted, you are effectively penalizing the sellers you do business with, granted to a small degree. Your positive rating isn't there to offset any neutrals or negatives; the seller has a smaller pool of positive feedback. While feedback percentage is no longer a direct determiner of discounts or penalties, it DOES matter with respect to public perception. Fighting the system ( ebay) seems to be your intent, but ebay isn't the one paying the price; it's the sellers you are buying from that are being affected. |
