Cjd; In the link the post office opening and closing dates are for all
stamp cancels.At least that's what I gathered.As far as the 7571 is
concerned; it must be a typing error on their part.

A typing error has to go back quite a ways in time. In my limited looking I saw Klaseboer referring to the number, and there is that Philatelic Side Lines pamphlet from 1907 listing it, too. The pamphlet is available as a scan by Google.

Everyone could be using the 1907 reference, or there could be something even older that everyone is citing.

Still a mystery...

I'm sure there is a way to link directly to Philatelic Side Lines through Google Books, but I didn't find it. I'll paste this (very long) link, but I'm skeptical that it will work for others:

https://books.google.com/books?id=u...1907&f=false

It shows up on the first page of Google results with a query of "Philatelic Side Lines 1907" so that is an option if the above link doesn't work.

The reference to 7571 is near the end of the pamphlet. (It's a short volume.)

Here is Klaseboer's Monaco page:

http://catalogue.klaseboer.com/vol1/html/monac.htm

I like oddities, so now I want a 7571 cancel, if they exist, but I've exhausted my efforts at searching...

I want one too ..Maybe someone has access to the book..
or can take a pic of the page in question and post it..
I doubt that it exists because it would of been known either in form of a pic or in an auction.Small errors creep into philatelic literature like this when they are not verified by specialized authors concerning a given country or era...

Taking a closer look at things, it gets more interesting. Curiouser and curiouser, as they say.

Here is the second of two pages with the listing of foreign post offices, as printed in Philatelic Side Lines Vol. 1, from 1907.

The full list purports to show PC and GC numbers issued by France. The first page has two columns, for PC and GC numbers; by the time we get to page 2, there are no more PC numbers in the listing, so we're not seeing that PC column above.

The first page illustrates the PC and GC cancels, so there is no doubt what the editors intended to show.

Interestingly, after the first line of the fragment, above, things go in a strange direction. My GC lists don't match the balance of the numbers on that list after Cavalle. The rest of the numbers, except for Monte Carlo, appear here:

http://marcophilie.org/doc-liste-de...tranger.html

Perhaps this is more information to use to research what is going on here? Or maybe someone recognizes something about these numbers that would tie to Monte Carlo?

The Mystery of 7571 has been solved. Here is the information:The 7571
number was not a regular cancel but used on return too sender or
insured & declared mail letters and stamped on the envelope. It was only used in the Post office in Montecarlo opened on the 10th of December 1884.I don't know what it looks like.
So it's not a PC or GC cancel but a numeral cancel for a particular usage.
Now we can try too find one on a cover from this time frame, that is after 1884..!
I found this information in the on line National French Library(Bibliotheque Nationale
de France or BNF) On internet it's called GALLICA.

In your list the GC numbers match perfectly.Now they put 7571 in a GC list,but it is not a GC.It will be difficult finding a cover with this;
as early mail from Monte Carlo is scarce. That means a letter "Chargé" or
"retour a l'envoyeur".
