The answer is likely in the message on the back of the postcard. You'll note that the sender states that "...certain papers....were this day mailed to you in care of Jos, Pascholy & Co., Nogales..." This may have been forwarded, under separate cover or with the packet, to the firm in Nogales who then sent the postcard ahead, notifying the recipient of the pending arrival of an important letter so that it was received, and the required notarized papers returned, in a timely manner.
Nogales is on the US-Mexican border, just 60 miles north of Magdalena so the "via Nogales" instruction seems a reasonable marking to be made by the sender in Seattle.
It would also make sense to have the legal documents that are referred in the care of a firm in Nogales which would be the nearest location to Magdalena where they could be executed before a US notary.
The card was sent from Seattle to Magdalena. It was not reposted in Nogales.
