Stampmen.inc has advertised in Linns on a regular basis, showing extensive and attractive world wide stock. I've been tempted, but never placed an order.

Now he has been charged with being a part of a large medicare fraud scheme.

Odd. I never heard of him until this posting. Never noticed anything in Linn's. I do see he had a booth at World Stamp Expo NY-2016. His internet sites are now blank. Linn's ads and the stampmen.inc come up empty on Google.

Note: It is Kevin Custis M.D.(correct spelling- the topic title had an incorrect spelling) that is/was the "Stamp Man" dealer.

I would personally be very hesitant to order from someone who has been indicted for fraud. No, cancel that thought. I WOULD NEVER order from someone who had been indicted for fraud.

If they are fraudulently filing claims for their primary occupation, why should anyone not believe their ethical standards - or lack thereof - would be any different in another endeavor?

Just my thoughts...

Dr. Custis' dad was/is a stamp dealer as well who was expelled from the APS in either 1984 or 1986. His name is also Kevin so if you are an APS member you should be able to find info about how and why he was expelled.

During the 80s the senior Custis bought increasingly higher levels of advertising in Linn's until running either an insert ad or a long, multipage ad and never paying. I dealt with Senior once in the 90s and he seemed quite shady, leading me to ask around. I learned about the Linn's situation from Jan Brandewie when she owned Global Stamp News. Senior was advertising in Global and Jan didn't even know; Senior used his wife's name and a new biz name. So Jan almost fell out of her chair when I asked about Kevin Custis.

Interesting news and an apparent familial thread now in the light.

From the APS Disciplinary Action List from those that were suspended/reprimanded since 1995...

This would be the son.

Yes... most who have seen them at shows will recall his dad was almost always there as well. I think if anyone is interested an inquiry can be sent to the APS by members for disciplinary actions prior to 1995.

Pinging this old topic with some interesting new info. FLOREX, the 3-day December show staged in or near Orlando FL will be held starting December 3. Stampmen apparently has a booth at FLOREX. Makes me wonder if perhaps the younger (Dr.) Custis (who surrendered his medical license) will once again be the main Stampman at the show. It's possible he's served his time and is back in philately.

His dad must be getting up there, as Dr. Custis is now in his late 50's, so I wonder if dad can still man the tables at the show.

I will be at FLOREX representing Stanley Gibbons Auctions so I will have the opportunity to visit other dealers and see what the latest is. Will report back what I learn about Stampmen and other interesting elements of the show.

And of course, I will be looking for philatelic properties to buy or consign at the show as well. Please come say hi!

When's FLOREX going to get an auction? They had Michael Rogers for years , it was the only auction I could drive to and I never missed it.
