Look at the second photo (stamp close up scan) and go to 150% or so on your browser.
Look at the top left of the stamp. The clean stamp appears to have been placed over the dirty envelope. Clean stamp - dirty envelope. Not what you would expect to see.
Seems to be a minor timing issue with the sequence of events IMO.

LincolnStampAndCoin, are you the seller of this item? You appear to be going out of your way to defend this listing, when anyone can see from the images that it is NOT what it is claimed to be. |

ANYONE can't see it, but those of us with decades of philatelic experience can certainly see it. |

The postmark on the stamp does not match the postmark on the envelope. It has a smaller circle cancel and no letters that are missing from the stamp postmark are on the envelope. We do not need a closer look to see that there is deception there. And when you ask a ridiculous price on anything, we have the right to make fun of it. I would be ashamed of a listing like that under my name. Not only does that one listing show a scam, but it warns you that the seller is probably scamming on most of their other items. Reputation is dependent on the items you sell. |

Reminds me of an old Herman Hurst story about a NY dealer that invited a rich patron to visit his shop for a special item (an invert or something like that). In his excitement the collector showed up too early and had to be delayed a bit while the 'fixer' was still working on the item in the back room. LOL. |

I am not an expert on US cancels, but if it is Albany, there would be some evidence of the "Y" a lot lower than the blob on the right side of the cancel - if it was genuine. |

A: the picture is scanned. God only knows the color B: We discovered the Higley 1739 3.1-D, Unique, which everyone and their brother (PXXX, NXX, HERXXXX, etc.), coin in hand, said that they knew it was a counterfeit coin. Not withstanding that it is an Impossibility for it to be counterfeit, no one would touch it save for Stack's, which sold sold it raw for $69,000 so, you know...

You selling a coin has zero bearing on this item, which is a cover. The people making comments here all have from 30 to 60 years of experience in philately; the comments of such people are not "pomposity" but knowledge. However your insistence that it must be genuine in the face of this reeks of naked greed mixed with ego. |

I am not even sure the address was written with a pen and quill / nib. Looks too evenly inked. I could be wrong, but I am convinced the cover is fake.. Hack jobs always are fun to find and dissect. The thread is quite entertaining though - thanks to all. |
