Don, the stamp is obviously used with a partially removed pen cancel still faintly visible on Washington's forehead. The used 2018 Scott catalog value for very fine and no defects would be $800. Assuming the stamp was reassembled as opposed as being from pieces of different stamps, the wholesale value would be on the order of one to five percent of catalog value plus a premium for "popularity" giving a top retail value of $50 to $80 as a space filler.

This listing is a perfect example of the 100:10:1 scam where someone offers a stamp worth $1 resembling a $100 stamp for $10 as the better stamp, to attract bargain hunters, referred by some in the stamp trade as "fish".

Bidding is up to $910. These things are always stunning. Who could possibly be bidding on this. The entire thing is just amazing. ebay could care less. NYStamps has a big fat zero rating for scruples. And people support the entire farce by actually diving into the cesspool. Goog God almighty. I avoid ebay like the plague because using ebay merely condones all of the nonsense. Red line errors, misidentified, fixed, faked, repaired, catalogued incorrectly, shill bidders and the crowds clap and cheer. Yeah. What a joke.

Bidding up to $1500, imagine dropping $1500 on this item. The anticipation of the package to arrive and then opening the parcel only to find a used, faulty stamp not worth $100. This seller is damaging to the hobby and this is why I refuse to buy from them even if a spot what I think is a good deal.

There are good sellers on ebay but sorting and filtering by price is not the way to find them. We need to educate others that buying good, quality material is costly. Instead, we seem to love to do ebay's marketing for them by touting the bargains we find on ebay.

Finding a bargain on ebay takes one of two things; either you are incredibly lucky (i.e. lottery lucky) or you have the years of experience and knowledge to be able to find and then identify quality material at a great price.

But the vast majority of quality sellers know exactly what they have and it's value. Seeking bargains with sellers like NY Stamps will only get you disappointment and encourage them to keeping selling misrepresented material.

They may have disclosed that the stamp was "expertly repaired", but the "mint" assertion is blatantly false.
