He withdrew the lot I posted to, right after I left my bad review. A review interestingly that never saw the light of day on ebay.
I am starting to think ebay needs to crack down on these absurd listings. Granted no one there knows much about stamps. But maybe ore of us need to start doing reviews when we see some trash like this with a huge tag on it. Most of the sellers doing this are folks who troll garage sales and just throw stuff out there and see if it sells. It harms ebay's reputation and our hobby.
Listings like these get posted by people who don't know much (or anything) about stamps probably as often as they get posted by bad people trying to rip others off. Some of these people may not even be completely in their right mind, as far as I can see. But I hardly think it's a serious problem. If you're collecting stamps, and you think these sort of listings are serious for even a moment there is something wrong with you. Policing serious cheats, counterfeitors, and sellers of altered stamps is important. But people who post garbage like this seem as harmless as the village idiot. I'd even be surprised is any of these ridiculously priced listings ever sell. I'm not sure why this even matters other than for a good laugh. The same thing happens with almost every other thing people can sell from jewelry to cars to artwork.
If the sellers are this clueless and just throwing out guesses, it reminds me of one of the best lines from the original (ie, good version) of DAWN OF THE DEAD. When the guys are checking out the rifles in the gun shop in the mall (in preparation for cleaning the zombies out of the mall), Peter picks up a particularly fancy (for 1977)rile with a scope, zeroes in on a zombie outside in the mall, and tells his partner 'you know, the only person who could miss with a gun like this is the sucker with the money to buy it'...
Something else going on with these ridiculous listings? There seems to be quite a number of them cropping up on ebay these days. A little money laundering scheme, perhaps? They can't possibly expect there will be buyers for the trash they're advertising. Can they?
This is where knowledge on our part comes in. Of we don't we should seek out some of ask questions before hand from someone who does. If we're not sure, then it's probably best to pass.
For those not yet aware... this is the Asian Cartel, operating out of Monterey Park, California, under 3 different ebay ID's much like the British Cartel, we are all too aware...
