Thanks for posting. It always exciting to see something exotic.
Not seen in my years of collecting Turkey. I would Guess it is a Phantasie, the Postmark looks dodgy.
May I keep a copy of your scan for my records please?
Anyone recognise the Landscape?
Fortified cliffs of Alaya, coast of Caramania", view of Alanya, Southern Turkey with its medieval castle & the city. ?

Anything to do with the French post offices at Smyrna? These had a "Turquie d'asie" postmark, also this stamp has the inscription "Smyrne" which is French for Smyrna. |

Rod222, yes you can keep a scan. I looked at your pages on Turkey before posting.
Thank you for looking.

Thank you Lee, It may well be a "poster stamp" tourist style from France as Tim suggested.

Nice item, Leejb1. Rod, Do you think the scene is intended to show Mount Yamanlar at Izmir? I've not found any convincing photos yet but some online are suggestive of this. |

Quote: Rod, Do you think the scene is intended to show Mount Yamanlar at Izmir? Nigel, A wild guess, took from an engraving, that would suggest a contemporary place of interest for tourism, esp. the ruins of the old fort. Karamitsos Auctions. |

I've never seen this before either. Doesn't look like a revenue. My guess would be a Smyrna local? Doesn't look like a cinderella either - it has a denomination on it - 5 piastres - in French, English, & Arabic - no cinderella would have that?? |

For the record:
Dr. Birken replied, he has no knowledge of this piece, not his area. Suggests it may be a fiscal.
I'll forward the stamp image on to ONEPS for members to see.....
I have leant on his generosity of assistance and forwarded the two blue unknown stamps we have, for his appraisal.

This stamp was mentioned in the book by Georges Chapier in " Les Timbres de Fantasie".There were stamps with: Alep,Beyrouth,Brousse,Bademli, and Smyrne.perfed 11 He did not precise anything further.I don't have the book in question. Chapier was a specialist on fantasy stamps. https://vignetteaec.com/documentati...e-fantaisie/ |

Hi perf12, That looks a very interesting book. There's a copy in our society's library so I'll try and find it. It's funny to see the 1895 Brunei stamp at the top. These were thought for years to be bogus but now have a full listing in catalogues. |

Extract from the book about Brunei ! Brunei, independent sultanate of the Pacific According to Chapier p. 44, stamps were sold to collectors during the year 1895; these vignettes were ordered by the sultan of this country, but never used (10 values). Subsequently, it was stated that they could be found by letter because their postal use had been confirmed by the Brunei post office. |
