Has anyone had any experience attending this stamp show who would like to share their thoughts? I'm having trouble finding detailed information for this year's show. Looked at what appeared to be the main webpage advertising this show which is slated to have a Harmer-Schau auction, dealer bourse and seminars, but couldn't find anything beyond that - list of dealers, list of seminars, program, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not going to be able to make it there this year, but I usually attend.

I agree with you, it does look like there's very little information on the show promoter's website. However, I also received this graphic in an email from the American Stamp Dealers Association this afternoon, which provides information on the ASDA dealers who are attending.

My reply continues ...

There should be quite a few more dealers at the show than those mentioned above, since those are just the ASDA-member dealers.

I don't which is larger anymore, but certainly this show and SESCAL are the two largest stamp shows in the LA/OC area.

I hope that's helpful!

Philatarium - thank you for the info. I just saw some note somewhere that there would be 50+ dealers - don't know if that was just wishful thinking; if close to the truth, are there that many dealers that are not members of ASDA?

Still deciding whether to go . . .

I think there are more dealers who are members of the APS but not the ASDA. And there are some smaller, perhaps local / part-time dealers who may not be members of either.

Nevertheless, I would say the last couple of times I've attended that there were probably around 50 dealers. As I said, between this show and SESCAL, those are the 2 largest stamp shows in Southern California, other than those rare times when the APS winter show is held in Riverside. I don't think you'll find a greater selection of dealers in the area. The next closest large show would be Westpex near the San Francisco Airport.

This show used to be held at the Embassy Suites in Anaheim/Garden Grove, and everyone was packed into one large ballroom. The current arrangement at the Hotel Fullerton is a little different, with the dealers split between 2 or 3 different rooms, so the "vastness" is not as apparent.

Also, this is not a show with exhibits (as far as I know, for this year) -- it's pretty much a dealer bourse and auction. So there are fewer society meetings, etc. That's where SESCAL really excells, as it's sponsored by a confederation of philatelic societies and has very competitive exhibits and a lot of society meetings. (The new location at the Ontario Convention Center was excellent for this, in my opinion.)

But back to OrcoExpo. Admission is free -- parking is free. And there are a lot of dealers, many who travel some distance to be there. I don't know where you're located, but if you're at all local to the area, I'd think it would be a good show. (The local smaller bourses will pale by comparison.) It's about 40 miles away from me, and I think it's worth the trip. (I have work commitments that will keep me away this time.)

And, to be clear, I don't have any affiliation with the dealers or the show (other than being a member of the APS).

Philatarium - thanks again for your comments. I sent an email to the person who runs this show and his reply indicates about 35 or so dealers, a UN first day issue, the Harmer Schau auction and a handful of meetings. Doesn't look like there are exhibits. It's a 5-6 hour drive for me, but we're going to the LA area this weekend anyway so I'm still contemplating whether to stop by the show.
