Since the question of whether a stamp is genuine or not is still only an opinion, an educated opinion but an opinion nonetheless, I doubt if anything can really be done to Anthony's. He will simply say that his opinion is that they are genuine. Any opinion to the contrary simply fall into the "they don't have to buy it if they don't want to" category. I wish it was not so, but I really don't see any way to stop him after all these decades. |

Well here's all the evidence you need: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Turkey-in-...AOSwlRZZzVByThis stamp is misidentified. It is not Turkey in Asia Scott #20 - it is Scott # 35. This is not an opinion - it is fact. The overprint on the stamp is for Scott #35 - the overprint on Scott #20 is different. Scott #35 has a cat value of $24.50. Just a bit different than Scott #20, which has a cat value of $17,500. I have informed the seller of this. The stamp is still up there. Draw your own conclusions... |

So they will say "we made a mistake" and "we get thousands of emails a week, so this one slipped through". If you can find dozens like this then it might prove something, but a small number out of thousands of listings can easily be explained away. These people have been getting away with this for decades, and they know all the answers. That's why the only real answer is to spread the word as far as possible in the hopes that people will not buy from them. |

Are you kidding me? Opinion?? Did you bother to look at the PF Report Card on Anthony's??? 20 stamps submitted that were purchased from Anthony's to PF for authentication, and ONE....I repeat ONE, came back genuine (albeit with a tear)! IMHO (there's that "opinion" word again), Anthony's, are at the very least, deceptive, and ebay should take steps to remove them, irrespective of how large a revenue stream they may represent. |

This is = to a Big Four Accounting opinion.
Who should the SEC (ADSA) listen to. Management or the Accounting Firm?
Clearly Minimum reasonable commercial practices are not being meet. Not a debatable point in anyone's opinion other the a bad actor pathetically defending fraud. Period. Case closed.

I understand, but you don't seem to get the idea of an opinion. It's not the converted who matter. No matter how many times the PF says it, only those who believe in them and their expertise will agree with it. Anyone who wants to say it's a wrong opinion can do so, and non collectors will have to decide who to believe(the people who would be prosecuting Anthony's, for example). Understand, I agree with everything said about Anthony's; I am just trying to help people to understand the huge hurdles out there. As the old saying goes, "cream rises to the top but s*** also floats". |

Bart (revcollector) is correct. Expertizing opinions, by by definition, are people's *opinions*. They are not law. They are not binding.
Yes, there can be consensus and generally accepted industry practices, but none of those are binding with respect to purchases, unless the seller wishes to do so, or are covered by the terms of the platform where the seller is selling.

One can rationalize inaction by focusing on the "hurdles" to be overcome and deeming them insurmountable or near so. Or one can take action and address obstacles as they arise. The status quo is completely unacceptable. If we do not at the very least start the ball rolling and confront the problem directly we are sending a message to the bad actors that we are all wind. MG from Anthony's and Philip Ryle of Cartel fame undoubtably cruise this forum to check our pulse. A united front would be nice for them to see. |

PF three person expert committee opinion that is the gold standard and an unbiased non profit very long standing organization. I understand opinions. I need to being a ethical CPA for over a quarter century. My livelihood is predicated on it.
Just because there are hurtles doesn't mean it's not worth fighting the good fight. We All need to send a shot across the bow with eBay/ASDA from all the esteemed members of this board on this particular bad purveyor so that we finally get some traction with eBay/ASDA to addressing blatant and fraudulent miss use of their platform/logo. They both have culpability here. Maybe not legal but certainly ethical. |

Along the lines of "sending a message", I have received exactly ONE reply to my proposal yesterday. Anybody else that wants to send me a testimonial on their personal experience w/ Anthony's, please click on this link, https://www.reedededge.com/contact/, and remember to put "Re: Anthony's" in "your name" box. The power to make a difference depends on the incentive to take action! |

On the topic of opinions an opinion rendered by the Philatelic Foundation is an expert opinion. It carries weight. The Courts hear and decide outcomes every second that utilize EXPERT opinions. There are doctors opinions, handwriting expert opinions, engineers opinions and so on. There is no comparison between what a PF expertiser has to say on a stamp topic and what I would say. My opinion would end up in a dumpster after being shredded. Decisions would be made based upon a PF expertiser's opinion. Imagine a Court asking Anthony's for their expertising credentials. "I sell stamps". Then they ask the PF expertiser. "I am an acknowledged authority on early period paper, colors and cancellations utilizing spectrum analysis and my findings are the basis for major collectors financial decisions around the World". |
