I lost my Steiner CD that I got several years ago and need to reprint some of the Germany pages. Wondering if anyone might have the pages from 1940 to 1945 including the semi-postals, occupations they could send me. Thanks!

I would like to help you but are not entitled to, keeping in mind the copyright instructions from Steiner

Quote:
Your purchase of a website membership, or a CD-ROM disc, entitles you to use the stamp album page files for the personal use of you or your immediate family. This is the only use you can make of the files or CD-ROM discs. You may not use them in any commercial activity, such as selling pages printed from the files, or reselling the CD-ROM discs. Also, you may not share the files or CD-ROM's with other people, such as a group of friends or members of your stamp club, even if you do this without charge.

It's a 'grey-zone' because you have already purchased the CD before and then lost it. Maybe Steiner himself will be willing to send you the relevant pages for free when he has confirmed you have been a customer with him previously?

Old Man River.
I have authority to share some files, but not so Germany. Sorry.

I have found Mr. Steiner to be generous to a fault.
He has exceptional records, if he has you as a previous customer, I am confident he would assist.

Good Luck.

Bill Steiner's intent is to prevent losing money by having purchasers of his pages share them with others for free. Obviously, that would not be good. You need to pay for what you use. But if 'oldmanriver' has already paid, as Blaamand says he may have a case to be given the Germany pages he needs. Although it's hard to say how often Bill would want to do this as it does present an inconvenience.

Here's more of what Bill says about his 'copyright' limitations:

"I do need to make enough profit to keep this website going. If you sell or share my files or CD-ROM's with others, you're costing me money by depriving me of future memberships or CD-ROM sales. So please help me keep the website going by only using the files or discs for your personal us."

I doubt anyone would disagree. But our friend here has already purchased the CD (and managed to lose it), so it's not purchasing a second CD that costs Bill Steiner money.

There is one less expensive alternative. Go to Richard Simpson's website (see "need already printed pages" link on Bill's website) and buy the pages you need already printed. Cost is 25-30 cents a page -- if that works out to be affordable. They're printed on good quality paper. If you have your own particular printing needs, though, it might be best to cough up another $75 for a CD or $50 for another year's membership which, in any case, would be newer and more complete.

A bit off the subject, but Bill Steiner now sells the CD of pages for $75 along with a year's membership to his website -- or $50 for the annual membership without the CD. I've purchased his annual membership once or twice before, but $50 a year seemed a bit steep to keep doing year after year so I let it lapse. I imagine most people do the same thing. So, I wonder why he doesn't offer some kind of discounted membership after the first year? I'd think more people would subscribe longer that way. I'd be inclined to, but not $50 year after year especially if I'm only printing a small number of pages after the first year. Here's two scenarios:

1. $50 paid the first year, then $25 each year after that. Five year membership total: $150.
2. $50 for one year, then subscription not renewed. Five year total: $50

Wouldn't the extra $100 from even just 5-10% of his subscribers makes it worthwhile? Of course it's none of my business, and it is his website based on all his work. So I'm just thinking out loud here.

I emailed Mr. Steiner, some time back,
and asked if he was OK that I sell my old copy, when buying a new series.
He replied that "He would prefer that I did not"

I honoured that request.

When a product is so well priced, and the service outstanding,
I found it easy to meet with that request.
