Apologies if this is covered elsewhere but I couldn't find anything when I searched.

I have a Penny Red Plate 76 which has a double H in the bottom right hand corner. Unfortunately no point in putting an image up as I can't get one clear enough.

Are these sorts of double prints common in these stamps?

Thank you.

Some sort of ID would help... as it stands you could mean any one of 40 stamps as plate 76 exists imperf (20 stamps with H in bottom right corner) and perf (another 20 stamps with an H in bottom right). Narrow the field by stating if it is imperf or perf and giving the left bottom corner also would give the exact stamp.

It's an imperforate and I've said Plate 76 as it was written on the back. The letters at the bottom are AH and it would be Die I (if that helps) Thank you.

Hi Eiger,

Lowe states that with regard to double letters, "these varieties are not uncommon". He cites plate 76, AH as a prominent example.

Hope this helps

As already mentioned it is a "double letter" and probably looks like this...

A nice find as it is an good example of double lettering and would probably be worth about 20 percent more than a "normal".
