I am sorting out a box of covers and stationery, and I found this leaflet .

it is about the issue of the Army and Navy series 4 cent stamp. I believe Scott 788. The one With Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackon.

I am posting it because it might be of interest for collectors to read some detail on this issue.

I scanned it in 2 parts.

I also scanned the stationery cover it came in, it is one with a Penalty for private use overprint.

This was back in the day when they catered to the customer. No longer. Just like the airlines.

This is what is known as a new issue notice. They were sent to collectors, dealers, newspapers and cachet makers to advise them of new issues as they were preparing to print them.

These are highly collectible, because as you can imagine, most were destroyed after the fact. While there were thousands of them printed, only a few remain today. The original printing for this would have been 40,000, as shown in the bottom left corner of the second scan. I collect these as a collateral item for U.S. issues.

This is still done today, only in electronic format.

Nice find!
