A Vietnamese stamp of 1972 features a drum procession painted in the style of folk art. Does anyone know which festival/dance is being celebrated - there are so many in Vietnam! I found a scan of the original which looks as if it had been drawn on banana paper?

Another example of an umbrella representing protection: Slovenia was the Chaircountry of the OSCE in 2005. The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe is the world's largest security-oriented intergovernmental organization. The secretariat is in Vienna. It has its origins in the 1975 Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe held in Helsinki, Finland.

Indonesia issued a charity stamp for Children's Welfare in 1954. Two youngsters are doing an umbrella dance. Does anyone know if charity stamps were issued in the following years? This set of 6 reminded me of the long-lasting Dutch Voor het Kind series; The Netherlands did have great influence in Indonesia.

Hungary featured elderly cars in their set of stamps for 1970. This Benz had 35 horsepower and could seat four. I was wondering where I would stand in a white dress while the engine is being cranked?.

Another elderly car in the Hungarian set of 1970 was the French Peugeot of 1894. It had only a few horsepower and not many were produced but it participated in the first car races.

China used a large umbrella with a solar panel pattern to illustrate protection of the environment, 2010. Umbrellas as symbols of protection might make a great subtopic.

Children sitting firmly on an anchor and protected from the rain by an umbrella, they are perhaps happy because it doesn't rain very often on Aruba. In a child's writing 'Vor het Kind', charity stamp in support of needy children. One recognizes the influence of the Netherlands, to which Aruba still belongs.

A child protected by a pretty umbrella. A very similar motive to that of Aruba from the Netherlands Antilles (right next to Aruba) for their charity stamp of 2003.

The Haile Selassie Foundation, founded in 1954, supports especially young people to get an education, a job, etc. One in a set of four stamps (1974) featuring projects, in this one making umbrellas. Worth mentioning: Timkat is the Ethiopian Orthodox celebration of Epiphany, on January 19. The clergy, in robes and with umbrellas of many hues, perform rollicking dances and songs.
