Teodor Laço (1936–2016) was an Albanian writer and diplomat. He was the Minister of Culture from 1994 until 1997 and later ambassador to Russia. The stamp of 2009 illustrates one of his plays: "Rain at the Beach".

On March 30, 2005 Singapore issued a set of 4 stamps celebrating the birth bicentenary of Danish artist and writer Hans Christian Andersen. The $1 value shows a scene from "The Emperor's New Clothes" and features an umbrella.

Some frogs are really lucky: they are taught to watch out for certain dangers that may be out there in the swamp and how to avoid them. Note differences in the alphabet used on the stamps; for children 2016.

Hi Bookbob, The Emperor is simply delightful, and the expressions on the faces of the onlookers even more so. Here the umbrella is necessary for shade, but is also a sign of high status. K.

Even frogs need a holiday now and then. These creatures have strong legs and can keep the swan moving at several knots. 2014

Nice stamps, Kris!

The 30c value of Singapore's 1971 "Visit A.S.E.A.N. Year" set shows an open air market, featuring an umbrella.

Fiji has some quite spectacular beaches and resorts. If this stamp of 1968 was issued to promote awareness of the World Health Organization - see emblem - then the artist should at least have the bathers be sun-wise and sitting in the shade, not next to it!

Hi Bookbob, Nice addition of yours too. Is that a water-skiing squirrel? K.

The tourism stamp of Israel issued in 1989 shows a very quiet evening at a beach with a red setting sun, perhaps one of those close to Telaviv. It's much more crowded nowadays and the city skyline is also different.

Vasco daGama sailed all the way to India in 1498. On the way he stopped at Melinde, on the east coast of Africa, and was greeted by the King of Melinde. daGama established a trading post there for future expeditions. The King is not only shaded by an umbrella, it also signifies his status, as seen in several other stamps featuring people in high positions. Stamp for 500 years after this meeting.

Uruguay issued a souvenir sheet promoting tourism in 1974. There are many logos showing supporters of tourism as well as the logo of the football world championship games in Germany. Uruguay won the first of these in 1930 and has qualified for 2018. (The position of the sun suggests that the bather is playing beach ball in the late afternoon and that must be Montevideo in the background.)

Hi Rod, Your flipping umbrella is a nice idea, too bad the stamps pictured are a bit dull - I was tempted to locate the company to see if they are still available! K.

Hi Kris,
cannot believe you are still finding these stamps.

We do not have much call for umbrellas in Perth,
when it buckets down, on the rare occaision, I use my Golf Parasol.
